The best time to visit Hierapolis-Pamukkale is during the spring (April to June) and fall (September to October) seasons. During these months, the weather is typically pleasant, with mild temperatures and fewer crowds compared to the peak summer months.

On the other hand, the summer months (July and August) can get quite hot in this region, making sightseeing and walking around less enjoyable. Additionally, these months tend to attract larger crowds, which can impact your overall experience. I’d suggest avoiding Pamukkale travel in winter (November to March since some of the terraces might be dry or inaccessible due to maintenance.

How to get to Hierapolis-Pamukkale?

Hierapolis-Pamukkale is at the top of everyone’s must-visit places in Turkey, and the fact that it is so well connected makes it easier to add it to your Turkey itinerary. Here are all the possible ways you can get to Hierapolis-Pamukkale. 

1. By Air: The nearest major airport is Denizli Çardak Airport (DNZ), which connects to several cities in Turkey. From the airport, you can take a taxi or use local transportation to reach Pamukkale, located about 65 kilometres away.

2. By Bus: Numerous bus companies operate routes to Denizli from major cities like Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir. From Denizli’s bus terminal, you can take a local bus, taxi, or shared shuttle to Pamukkale, which is around 20 kilometres away. Find all the bus connections to Pamukkale here. 

3. By Train: Denizli also has a train station, offering rail connections to various cities. From the train station, you can follow the same options as from the bus terminal to reach Pamukkale.

The Temple of Apollo and the Great Theater are just a couple of the remarkable historical sites you’ll encounter. And then there’s Pamukkale itself, often dubbed the “Cotton Castle.” The white travertine terraces and thermal pools are a sight to behold. Bathing in warm mineral-rich waters is not only visually stunning but also incredibly rejuvenating.

The entry fee for the Pamukkale travertines in 2023 includes access to stunning terraces and thermal pools. For international tourists, the entrance fee for Pamukkale is 700 TRY. This fee also covers the entrance to Hierapolis and the archaeological site. You can either pay the entrance fee for Pamukkale online or at the ticket office on-site. 

The Pamukkale Cleopatra pool entrance fee is not included in the general entrance. You need to pay 200 TRY more if you want to swim in these ancient baths during your Pamukkale travel.

1. Laodicea: This ancient city is located about 10 kilometres from Pamukkale. Laodicea was an important centre of commerce and culture in its time, known for its wealth and significant historical ruins.
2. Aphrodisias: About a couple of hours’ drive from Pamukkale, Aphrodisias is an archaeological site known for its well-preserved ancient theatre, a monumental gateway, and the Temple of Aphrodite.
